After the party

Mace construction managed the transformation of an industrial building into modern luxury apartments on the site of a once famous nightclub.

Mace was appointed by Crosby Homes as project and construction manager to construct the £16million, twelve-storey Hacienda apartment building in central Manchester. The Hacienda apartment building comprises 156 high specification apartments in a prime city-centre location, built around a reinforced concrete frame. In addition to the apartments two levels of car parking were provided together with a small amount of retail. Facades were punched brickwork with feature stonework and zinc cladding, creating a contemporary look that remained sympathetic to the surrounding architecture.

The site was situated at a busy road junction and was bounded by the Rochdale Canal and a mainline railway, thereby making access and logistics particularly complex.

Features:

• Fast programme
• Tight budget
• Built on the site of the infamous Haçienda nightclub owned by the pop group New Order and is featured in the film '24 Hour Party People'.
• Very tight site on a busy road junction - bound on the north by the Rochdale canal and to the south by a main road and railway viaduct.
