Information
Another example of the power of construction management, in summer 2007 Mace delivered 51 Lime Street - the largest pre-let office development in the City of London.
Designed by Foster and Partners, the £130m 51 Lime Street project comprised two buildings - a twenty-eight storey tower with a double-layer basement and an adjoining ten-storey building. Completed in June 2007, 51 Lime Street became the fourth tallest building in the city of London, able to accommodate approximately 2,200 people. Close attention to construction logistics, integrated commissioning, and the extensive use of prefabrication enabled Mace to deliver to a demanding programme. The project team also successfully managed the interface with the tenant Willis - an important factor as the fit out of the Willis building overlapped with the completion of the base build.
Mace always pays close attention to the likely effects of the construction process and the Mace project team at 51 Lime Street was thrilled to win a gold award under the Corporation of London's Considerate Contractor Scheme in 2005 and again in 2006. The award recognises that the requirements of the Code of Good Practice have been consistently exceeded by all personnel working on the site. It reflects a spirit of pride, an awareness of the needs of the passing public and a regard for the surrounding environment.
On Tuesday 10th October 2006 Margaret Hodge MP, Minister of State for Industry and the Regions at the DTI, visited 51 Lime Street to officially open the site's dedicated learning centre.
The result of a partnership agreement between Mace, Lewisham College and UCATT (with support from Alandale Logistics), the learning centre was set up to provide on site learning facilities for workers. Working with Lewisham College Trade Union Studies Centre as the learning provider and UCATT, an organisation that promotes education on site, the learning centre was also approved to deliver the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) tests.
