BG refurbishment

Mace was appointed as construction manager on the extensive refurbishment of BG world headquarters.

BG Group commenced investigations into the future of its Reading headquarters complex during 2006. Of its four major buildings, one was unoccupied while three were operating beyond capacity and with a significant increase in staff numbers forecast, BG undertook an extensive programme of works.

After an initial feasibility study undertaken by Macro, the decision was taken to fully refurbish and reoccupy the unoccupied building and refurbish the remaining three buildings over a two year period.

In order to facilitate this process a temporary office block was constructed with a capacity to support 250 staff during the refurbishment programme.

The works typically involve the complete strip out of the buildings back to existing concrete structure and a comprehensive refit of all internal systems, services and furnishes to the highest standard.

Significant efforts have has been made to ensure the buildings comply with environmental best practice.

On completion of the works BG will have a headquarters complex that fully reflects its position as a world leader in the gas industry.
