Information
The Mirdif City Centre Shopping Mall is one of a number of malls Mace is project managing across the Middle East for Majid Al Futtaim.
The Majid Al Futtaim group of companies has changed the face of shopping, entertainment and leisure in the Middle East. Driven by the vision of its Chairman Mr Majid Al Futtaim the group has successfully brought the concepts of the mega mall and hypermarket to the region and combined them with high quality leisure facilities creating the unique concept of a shopping resort.
The Mirdif City Centre Mall builds on the success of the MAF "City Centre" brand which has already completed malls such as Deira City Centre (1995), Mall of the Emirates (2005) and Bahrain City Centre (completion Sept 2008).
Mirdif City Centre comprises 3,116,451 sq. ft of gross floor area spread over a service basement ground, and 1st floor. The mall contains 450 shops with adjacent 3 level parking for over 7000 cars and is anchored by a Carrefour hypermarket, a Magic Planet Entertainment zone which will contain the fabulous Air Kicks sky diving experience as well as indoor 5-a-side football pitches.
In addition the mall will contain 8 standard and 2 gold class cinemas and a mass of high quality brands such as Debenhams, Zara, Home Centre, Paris Gallery, Virgin Megastores and Virgin Active Gyms.
The F&B outlets are designed to service both the shopper and the leisure customer with two fast food courts, numerous coffee shops and a mix of mid and high end restaurants. The garden area outside the main entrance has facilities for al fresco dining and an outside cinema for use in the cooler months.
In addition to the project management of the mall and car parks the project requires the provision of a significant motorway interchange to service the development, the construction of a new 132kv substation and its own district cooling plant which Mace is also managing.
The scheme design was approved in 2007. An innovate procurement route (not dissimilar to CM) was devised by Mace and MAFSM which allowed a rapid start on site with only part DD established. The project broke ground in August 07. Mirdif City Centre will open to the public in November 2009.
